Mary Jane Pumps - A
Description
Mary Jane pump style shoes were once a
branded name of shoe, but no longer, shoe that typically had a
low heel, an open top with a strap over the top of the foot
near to the ankle.
Mary Jane
shoes were popular many years ago before
falling foul of that hideous creeping sickness hat is
fashion trends. A victim of the swinging sixties and into
the seventies, the design became unwanted and
unfashionable.
However, a resurgence in popularity
in the mid eighties and into the nineties, but with a
small dip into the noughties, Mary Janes as they are
affectionately known are now a very popular shoe
design.
Mary Jane pumps have
become somewhat of an adaptive design with no discernible
stylized heel or a style that would be defined as endemic
to the name. They are found in all sorts of varieties –
an open top with either a closed, pointed or an open toe.
It is a common joke among admires of fashionable footwear
that they’re called pumps because they help ‘pump up’ the
bank accounts of a number of designers.
The oldest recorded use of the word
‘pump’ in the context of shoes suggests that it was used
in 1555 when the word ‘pump’ was first used to describe
low riding shoes which had no fasteners. The word could
probably have been derived from ‘pampoesje’ which is
Dutch for shoe.
Design houses such as Christian
Louboutin, Steve Madden or Betsey Johnson all have a
range of MJs as well as Steve Madden and Carlos Santana.
I have to say this, I have said it many times, but Carlos
Santana shoes ROCK.
Mary Jane Pumps - Where To
Buy
You can find Mary Jane shoes
online, in department stores or shoe boutiques. They are
selling like hot cakes after making a comeback and having
been made popular by the very stylish and formidably
fashionable Carrie Bradshaw in the series “Sex and the
city”. You don’t need advice from her, or me, to look
good but I believe I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve
when it comes to shopping for these.
The Kenneth
Cole 'Rich N Hitched' Nubuck Mary Jane Pumps in
black (50% discount off list price) and the Kenneth Cole 'Back
Stage' Mary Jane Pump are quite popular with customers on
online stores like Amazon. If you’re looking for a more
fashionable take on Mary Janes, then Casadei has just what
you’re looking for. The Casadei Mary Jane Pump and their Triple
Platform Pump make for quite a style statement.
Robert
Clergerie’s Vic Mary Jane
Pumps (free shipping) and Arche’s Garbal
Pump use the platform heel as a base to build up to a pump
that makes it quite worth it’s price tag. If the Mary Jane
still feels a little plain, then try out the Casadei Triple
Platform Pump which is one pump worthy of any super-model’s
feet. The fact that its 60% off the sticker price for these
makes them quite a steal. If you’re looking for something
similar at a lower price, the Katia Lombardo Women's Pump
will make you a very happy customer.
